MILAN, Aug. 20 (Class Editori) – Today is an important day for MSC and Fincantieri, which, have participated, in the technical launch (the so-called "float out" namely, the first entry into the water) of the MSC Seashore ship. It is the biggest ship ever built in Italy (339 m long), very innovative also in environmental terms. The investment, about €1 billion worth, will significantly affect the economy of the country, which estimated value is 4.5 billion by MSC and Fincantieri.
The MSC Seashore is the third of four Seaside class ships which, currently includes the MSC Seaview (2017) and the MSC Seaside (2018) to which, in 2023 will be added a new model. All the three ships have been built in the Fincantieri factory of Monfalcone (Italy). The four vessels will provide investments for about 3.5 billion in total, with repercussions, on the economy, higher than 15 billion. A figure that, if confirmed, would correspond with a percentage point of Italian GDP.
In addition, significant repercussions on employment level. Indeed, it is esteemed that only for the MSC Seashore building (whose now, internal works will continue until the delivery, expected by July 2021), a direct employment equal to 4,000 units, apart from the economic activity, for a total amount of 10 million hours of work.
Giuseppe Bono- the CEO of Fincantieri- proud of the success, has remembered how "MSC Seashore will become the new flagship of MSC Cruises: a record ship which aims at innovation, technology and design by underlining once again the Fincantieri leadership". An even more important moment, if we consider "the situation of uncertainty we are experiencing worldwide", since it gives hope to a sector, the cruise one, strongly affected by COVID-19 crisis.
Pierfrancesco Vago- MSC Cruises executive chairman- has added: "We are committed in creating our fleet expansion program with the introduction of new high prototypes which, every time, push us to innovate and implement new standard of the sector". He confirmed the trust in "long-term growth perspectives, such as the return to service- at the beginning of this week- of the first MSC ship has showed and investments for the new heath and security operative protocol which, is already defining a new standard for the sector".
Meanwhile, Fincantieri is involved in another important match point for the entry into the capital of historical French shipyards called De L'Atlantique, for which, in the following days, is expected a decision by EU antitrust. The Italian and French governments are pushing for a rapid response. The Authority has postponed many times its judgment, in the first place in order to deepen the inquest and then due to the block of activities, caused by COVID emergency.
In September 2017, the two Governments have already reached an agreement (it should be remembered that Fincantieri owns 71.6% of CDP). Under the terms of the agreement, Fincantieri will detect 50% of capital from the De L'Atlantique shipyards. According to the deal, the French government will give 1% of the capital to Italy, which will have the control. The only guarantee: to follow some measures on employment and strategic intellectual properties.
