BEIJING, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Youku, one of China's largest video websites and part of Alibaba Group, saw its daily average subscriber number increase 60 percent year on year in the first quarter of the fiscal year of 2021, according to the fiscal report released by Alibaba on Thursday.
According to Alibaba, the increase was primarily driven by Youku's more effective targeting of new subscribers and increased contribution from the 88VIP membership program on the country's retail marketplace.
In the quarter ended June 30, Youku continued offering more original and exclusive content, and delivered a superior experience for users.
Revenue from Alibaba's digital media and entertainment segment in the quarter amounted to 6.994 billion yuan in the quarter, an increase of 9 percent from 6.426 billion yuan in the same period of 2019.
