Chinese tech-driven battery maker helps propel commercial vehicles into super fast charging era

July 31, 2025

Abstract : Guangzhou Greater Bay Technology (GBT), an ultra-fast charging battery unicorn firm, saw its commercial vehicle ultra-fast charging battery solution selected as a "quintessential case for automotive new quality productive forces in 2025" on Wednesday.

BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Guangzhou Greater Bay Technology (GBT), an ultra-fast charging battery unicorn firm, saw its commercial vehicle ultra-fast charging battery solution selected as a "quintessential case for automotive new quality productive forces in 2025" on Wednesday.

The southern China-based company won the honor during the 2025 Automotive New Quality Productive Forces Development Forum held by China Certification & Inspection Group and China Economic Information Service in Chongqing on July 30-31.

For years, GBT has delved into the commercial vehicle electrification sector and after rolling out the ultra-fast charging battery solutions, it helped address main pain points in commercial vehicle-related logistics and transportation such as time-consuming charging and high input for battery swap stations, said Pei Feng, president of GBT.

Currently, GBT's commercial vehicle standard battery pack supports a maximum charging current of 600A and an energy density of ≥140Wh/kg, making it suitable for multiple scenarios, introduced Pei.

In a mining area in southwest China's Yunnan Province, its batteries of the type had been adopted by electric heavy-duty trucks there as early as in 2023 and within 15 minutes, such trucks could complete a charge from 20 percent to 80 percent of battery capacity.

Travelling 394 km every day for a round trip between Shilin, a stone forest landscape-featuring county in Kunming City, and Yuezhou Town in Qujing City, these trucks reported smooth operations in rugged road conditions.

Pursuant to the present power and fuel prices, each such truck could save about 894.37 yuan of fuel costs per day and 295,100 yuan per year, according to GBT's case book.

As Pei noted, GBT batteries boast a distinct cost advantage if compared with similar ultra-fast charging batteries as they are priced merely 5-8 percent higher than common fast-charging batteries.

Via tech-driven superior battery performance but low manufacturing costs, the Chinese ultra-fast charging battery maker, described as "DeepSeek" of battery industry, has grown as a pacesetter in ultra-fast charging battery sector.

In the future, GBT will continue to partner with the local government and businesses of Hong Kong to turn the "Ultra-Charging Hong Kong" vision into reality and spur more practices boosting new quality productive forces in new energy vehicle field.
