Visitors to the Romanesque Road, the scenic route in eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt, and the Garden Dreams tourism network of historic parks in the same state, are to be given free Internet access at more than 100 locations. The state's ministry of economics is making 2.5 million euros available for WLAN services. The funding will be spent on upgrading the locations and better marketing, Saxony-Anhalt's Economics Minister Armin Willingmann said on Monday in Magdeburg. A total of 58 locations on the Romanesque Road, 46 parks and gardens in the Garden Dreams and 4 joint locations are to benefit.
The Romanesque Road was founded in 1993 and encompasses more than 1,000 kilometres of Romanesque buildings, including monasteries and cathedrals, village churches, castles and palaces. The number of visitors is estimated to be around 1.6 million a year.
