ADDIS ABABA, April 22 (Xinhua) -- China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and China's Shaanxi Polytechnic University have launched a 10-day training program for graduating students and local employees at General Wingate Polytechnic College in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
The training workshop, held in partnership with the Ethiopian university, aims to scale up Chinese language and engineering knowledge for 100 trainees through what is called the "Chinese + Construction" and "Chinese + Electrification" models.
Speaking at the event on Tuesday, Liu Xiaoguang, minister counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, said the training program is set to meet increasing demand for highly skilled professionals in the construction and industrial sectors.
"This Chinese workshop practical program is one of the vivid practical measures to implement the consensus reached between Chinese and African leaders. It is also one of the key initiatives for China and Ethiopia to jointly nurture talents and promote common development," Liu said.
Head of CCCC Ethiopia Tian Zhenke said the "Chinese language + skills" talent development model strives to produce engineering professionals who are technically skilled, linguistically capable, and culturally competent.
"The training program will help enhance not only professional skills but also broaden the international perspective of the trainees," Tian said, noting that the training is part of the commitments of the three institutions to formalizing their strategic partnership and enhancing talent development in Ethiopia.
Million Mathewos, deputy mayor of Addis Ababa, said the partnership between the three institutions will help enhance the quality of vocational education in Ethiopia and produce skilled, innovative, and globally competitive professionals.
"Through this partnership, we will work together in key areas, including faculty training, student skills development, joint degree programs, and co-development of modern curricula," Mathewos said.
