BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Some foreigners from countries such as Morocco, Burkina Faso, and Pakistan recently experienced the joy of making Huamo, a kind of ornate steamed flour buns in Hedong District, Linyi City in east China's Shandong Province.
Boasting a history of over 300 years, Huamo in Shandong is a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage. Huamo works are made after fermented flour is kneaded into various shapes such as figures, auspicious animals in Chinese culture like dragons and phoenixes, fruits and flowers, then steamed and finally colored with natural pigments of healthy fruits and vegetables. The colorful dough models are presented on special occasions such as traditional festivals and celebrations to express people's blessings and aspirations for a better life.

On the day, the foreigners appreciated pieces of Huamo works in a shop and learned Chinese culture and history behind the works. They also tried crafting Huamo under guidance of tutors, who passed down the craftsmanship and the wisdom of creative design.
It is interesting to make dough in the shapes of pandas or flowers, said Saida from Morocco, adding she would introduce Huamo to her friends and families.
