TASHKENT, March 9 (Xinhua Silk Road) -- Uzbekneftegaz, Uzbekistan's state-owned energy company, has signed a strategic agreement with Chinese firm CNPC Xibu Drilling Engineering Company to drill 30 wells across the Central Asian country between 2026 and 2027, according to a press release from the Uzbek company.
The agreement was reached during a visit to China by Abdugani Sanginov, chairman of the board of Uzbekneftegaz. The deal marks the first phase of a long-term cooperation strategy that envisages drilling a total of 105 exploration and production wells from 2026 to 2029.
Under the agreement, CNPC Xibu Drilling Engineering Company, a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), will deploy 10 drilling rigs, each with a lifting capacity of 450 tons.
The drilling operations will target areas with identified natural gas reserves, reaching depths of 5,500 to 6,000 meters. The project aims to navigate challenging geological conditions, including high pressures of up to 1,000 atmospheres and temperatures of up to 200 degrees Celsius.
The cooperation is expected to significantly enhance Uzbekistan's energy security by expanding geological exploration, increasing gas reserves, and improving drilling safety in complex environments, according to Uzbekneftegaz.
