BMW wants to increase its sales figures again this year. In 2022, however, the German automaker had to accept a decline in sales of 4.8 percent compared to the previous year, with just under 2.4 million vehicles delivered, the company has announced. In the final quarter, however, the figures showed a clear upward trend: 651,798 vehicles delivered by the BMW Group brands represented an increase of 10.6 percent. The company did not specify a specific target for this year. However, Pieter Nota, member of the board of management of BMW AG responsible for customer, brands and sales, announced that the "course for profitable growth" would be maintained.
BMW wants to make particularly strong gains in all-electric cars. Here, the share of total sales is to rise to 15 percent in 2023. Last year, it stood at 9 percent, with 215,755 vehicles sold. This was more than double the figure for 2021. "We continue to see particularly high order intake for our fully-electric models," Nota emphasized.
In the major markets, full-year sales figures developed in a similar way. The BMW Group experienced the sharpest decline of 7.5 percent in Europe. Sales in China fell by 6.4 percent, and in the Americas by 2.3 percent. There were also exceptions: BMW owed the fact that sales in Asia fell much more slowly overall than in China, its largest submarket, in part thanks to the strong sales figures from South Korea.
BMW had already provided initial figures last week, including the total volume at the BMW Group level and the 2.1 million vehicles for the core BMW brand.
