PARIS, July 20 (Xinhua Silk Road) -- Recently, the 2026 Global Conference of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development ("Science Decade") was held at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, France.
On the sidelines of the conference, Chinese firm BOE Technology Group specialized in display industry and IoT innovations simultaneously launched a themed technology exhibition, with its technology-enabled solutions drawing considerable attention from participants.
Upon entering the ground floor lobby of UNESCO headquarters, visitors are greeted by BOE's "Open Next Earth" technology-themed exhibition area. The exhibition is divided into four sections on digital culture, green energy, science education and interactive experience, systematically showcasing the deep integration of cutting-edge display technologies with global sustainable development.
The exhibited next-generation products, such as backpacks, foldable solar panels, and electronic shelf labels, all powered by perovskite photovoltaic technology, attracted many attendees, who were so intrigued that they inquired about the details. According to the introduction, these products not only require no external power source and can operate solely on natural light, but are also lighter and more flexible than conventional photovoltaic products, making them easier to integrate into various daily scenarios.
A variety of interactive installations also drew curious attempts from visitors: they would don mixed reality (MR) headsets to "fly kites" in a digital "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" scene, dip a brush into the ink to practice calligraphy on the smart calligraphy table, or zoom in on a transparent display to examine the intricate patterns on ancient bronze artifacts.
Myrtille Dulau, a French student interning at UNESCO, told the reporter that the smart calligraphy table offers instructional guidance and serves as an excellent introductory tool for beginners, adding that the real-time feedback after calligraphy practice makes the experience highly engaging. "This is the first time I've seen this kind of technology," she said.
Hu Shaofeng, director of the Division of Science Policy and Capacity Building in the Natural Sciences Sector of UNESCO, noted that BOE joined immediately after the "Science Decade" initiative was launched, becoming one of its first strategic partners. He particularly highlighted that BOE's innovative technological support has effectively enhanced the efficiency of translating the initiative from a global call to localized action.
"From teacher training in Kenya to the science club network in Namibia, and then to the launch of science clubs in the Asia-Pacific region, BOE has demonstrated efficient execution, rapidly transforming the initiative from concept into tangible practice. From Africa to Asia-Pacific, the collaborative model for science popularization that we have jointly developed is accelerating its expansion across the globe," he said.
Looking ahead, he expressed the hope that more globally oriented technology companies like BOE will engage deeply in the initiative. He specifically proposed three directions for future collaboration: replicating successful regional models in more areas, deepening the integration of "technology plus education" and encouraging more companies to grow from "participants" into "co-builders".
Emmanuel Desfourneaux, first vice-president of Talent Development Academy for International Organizations (TDAIO), told the reporter that he was deeply impressed by the technological innovations showcased by BOE, as they demonstrated "the possibility of combining culture and technology" and could thus potentially make greater contributions to the protection of world cultural heritage in the future. He said he looks forward to exploring specific cooperation with BOE in this field.
He believed that the application of new technologies in cultural heritage protection in Western countries is still insufficient and that the West should accelerate its learning from China. "Using current and future technologies to engage with our past and our cultural identity is a very interesting endeavor.
