MILAN, Sep 15 (Class Editori) — “As Investindustrial, our only target is to make our partners stronger, but with our operations we will never revolutionize things. France is not doing anything different because they are very respectful of a brand’s identity, but they are also a financial machine, while our nature is different”, Andrea Bonomi, founder of Investindustrial, stated during the “The power of finance for fashion and design” panel at the 2022 MilanParisCapital Forum organized by Class Editori, MF-Milano Finanza and Class CNBC, in collaboration with the Parisian newspaper Le Monde, from September 13 to September 15 with over 65 speakers divided into 15 panels. The panels are broadcast daily from 10 am in real time on the Class CNBC TV channel (Channel 507 on Sky), as well as, in streaming, on the milanofinanza.it website and on the Zoom platform.
The entrepreneur and businessman, who started a conglomerate with over 11 billion euros in resources to use, does not have any doubt on the fact that today it is almost impossible for Italian companies to remain within the country only or not having the support of a financial partner. “For years we have had many restrictions to operate in the country, since in many cases companies are managed by single entrepreneurs. Now, in Italy, there is a will to do that has not been seen in ages,” he stated. “In general, for Italian entrepreneurs, if they have the right financial strength behind them, it is a good moment to invest in their own growth”.
A spirit of initiative demonstrated by the Zegna Group, which last December was accompanied by Investindustrial to the NYSE listing. "We are very pleased with this operation. It was an important moment for the family, as they approached this new adventure with the right spirit. The choice of the New York list conveyed the message that Zegna sees itself as a global reality, and this vision has been recognized and rewarded by the American market since, even now that other stocks have fallen, Zegna has continued to rise". What is the future of this successful alliance? "Despite the fact that the Group has taken over the Thom Browne brand, which is doing very well, the intention is absolutely not to make a conglomerate".
However, there is not only fashion in Bonomi's plans. Through his Design Holding, the entrepreneur has in fact taken over B&B Italia and Flos and, in partnership with LVMH, recently won the license to produce Fendi Casa. "We have already inaugurated a 5,000-square-meter plant and a flagship store in Milan's Piazza della Scala. We are planning between 20 and 30 new store openings in the medium term. We are about to land in Japan and China and have just opened in Miami," he explained. "Fendi is a French-owned Italian fashion house, and they have been very good at consolidating its positioning throughout the world. We bring our experience from the point of view of product planning and design". As for Design Holding, Bonomi pointed out, a future on the Italian stock exchange is likely.
