April 26, 2020

Abstract : Live streaming is becoming a catalyst to revitalize the tourism industry for it serves as the best online scenario to connect tourism destinations and scenic spots with people, according to a report on tourism live streaming recently released by Mafengwo.

BEIJING, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Live streaming is becoming a catalyst to revitalize the tourism industry for it serves as the best online scenario to connect tourism destinations and scenic spots with people, according to a report on tourism live streaming recently released by Mafengwo.

The number of tourism live streaming on the Chinese travel service and social networking platform Mafengwo rose 108 percent in April compared with the figure of March, and the number of live streamers on the platform increased 58 percent month on month in April, said the report.

Many merchants are willing to invest in live streaming, hoping it would help boost their businesses, which were affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, according to Mafengwo's survey on merchants. More than 30 percent of the surveyed merchants had launched live streaming, and most of the merchants who had not set foot in the area said they would turn to live streaming.

The report also showed that the number of viewers watching tourism live streaming on Mafengwo has grown at an average daily rate of 101.4 percent since the start of April, and 72.88 percent of viewers took shine to travel experience-related live streaming.

People aged between 25 to 35 are the main users of tourism live streaming, accounting for more than 50 percent of the total, according to the report. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, silviasu07@163.com)
