September 19, 2019

Abstract : At the opening ceremony of the 2019 annual meeting of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha delivered a speech entitled "Promoting Development in Thailand.

InfoQuest (September 18, 2019)  -- At the opening ceremony of the 2019 annual meeting of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha delivered a speech entitled "Promoting Development in Thailand: Connecting Thailand to the World". The prime minister believes that the meeting will promote the implementation of the 12th national economic and social development plan to help Thailand realize efficient development. The 12th national economic and social development plan corresponds to the first five-year plan of the national strategy and reform plan. All parties concerned should work together to promote national development, eliminate weaknesses and inadequacies, and give full play to the strengths, so as to ultimately achieve the goal of the 20-year (2018-2037) national strategy and reform plan. The goal is to promote Thailand to become a developed country, make the society full of opportunities, narrow the gap between the rich and the poor, fully develop the potential of the country, and promote it to become a regional economic center.

Thailand boasts a superior geographical position. Based on this, the government plans to build it into a land, sea and air transportation hub in the ASEAN region, and make it realize connectivity with Indian Subcontinent, North Asian and West Asian countries, especially China and India. Thailand also has the potential to connect with the European continent. Different regions across the country have their own unique culture, traditions and customs. And the country is rich in natural resources and features biodiversity too. It should make full use of its own advantages to develop high-quality products so as to enhance the added value of products and promote the development of its international trade.

"Thailand must strive to build itself into the aviation, economic, educational and public health hub in the ASEAN region, and to establish comprehensive cooperation with countries within and beyond the region, in accordance with six key strategic guidelines. The Thai people are full of wisdom and should find ways to promote unity and cooperation among all sides and push forward various issues on the premise of abiding by laws and regulations", the prime minister said.

The prime minister also stressed that the government will continue to implement pro-enterprise policies, especially in environmental protection field, and facilitate the harmonious coexistence of local people and local industries and enterprises by adhering to the principles of respect, protection and guidance.

The prime minister urged everyone present to act as a leader in national change, and work together to implement various policies, improve the public's understanding, and jointly promote the implementation of major national projects, such as the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) project, so as to ultimately help the country see stability, prosperity and sustainable development.
