TAIYUAN, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group launched an industry demonstration project in Yangqu County of north China’s Shanxi province on Monday, announcing Yangqu Millet as the local public brand.
The project is aimed to take use of the Internet to build the agricultural products brand so as to further increase local farmers' income.
Yangqu County started to carry out comprehensive cooperation with Alibaba group based on the actual regional development since 2018. The county is committed to promoting the online and offline exposure and popularity of "Yangqu Millet" brand through various ways such as live broadcast, endorsement and evening party recommendation, and strives to implement the targeted poverty alleviation through e-commerce to help poor farmers in Yangqu.
On March 27, this year, "Yangqu Millet" was officially recognized as a geographical indication certification trademark by China’s National Intellectual Property Administration, marking that Yangqu-grown millet have a unified logo, which will effectively protect high-quality agricultural products and promote the development of characteristic industries.

Huang Aizhu, general manager of the agricultural development department of Alibaba Group, said that the core work of e-commerce poverty alleviation is to sell high-quality agricultural products, and Yangqu is the first county in Shanxi Province cooperating with Alibaba to carry out the demonstration project.
In the future, Alibaba will integrate digital information of Yangqu Millet in the whole process of production, management, processing, storage and sales, Huang noted, adding that through digitalized quality control, the quality information of agricultural products can be fully displayed to consumers.
At present, "Yangqu Millet" has already set up a complete production and processing chain, covering the procedures of storage, production, processing, packaging, etc. Meanwhile, Yangqu County has released a raft of regulations to ensure the quality of Yangqu-grown millet.(Contributed by Yan Jing, Edited by Yang Yifan, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
