BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Electric vehicle (EV) charging on expressways in east China's Jiangsu Province reached 5.3878 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) during the May Day holiday, marking a year-on-year increase of 19.74 percent and hitting a record high.
During the holiday, an average of 45,000 EVs were charged daily at expressway service areas in Jiangsu, with the highest single-day charging volume recorded on May 1 at 1.216 million kWh, up 17.58 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, during this period, all 3,540 charging stations operated by State Grid Jiangsu branch across the province, including those along expressways, at tourist attractions, and in urban public areas, ran on green electricity. In total, 14.8523 million kWh of green power was consumed, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 12,900 metric tons and contributing to China's dual carbon goals.
Moreover, to ensure smooth travel during the holiday, State Grid Jiangsu branch deployed 26 mobile charging vehicles and other mobile equipment in expressway service areas, providing on-site emergency services for 4,004 times. The company also introduced preferential pricing, helping EV owners save 383,500 yuan (about 53,138 U.S. dollars) and boosting consumption of clean energy.
During the holiday, a total of 1,168 charging support personnel from State Grid Jiangsu branch were on duty. In addition, the company worked with competent authorities responsible for industry, information technology, and transportation to establish a joint support mechanism, in order to track equipment status around the clock, issue early warnings for potential malfunctions, and monitor real-time vehicle queues on-site.
