BEIJING, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Pomelo orchards in Linfeng Town of Changshou District in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, have ushered in new development opportunities recently with the support of the State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company.
Local pomelo farmer Shi Guoqiang expressed his gratitude to the state grid staff on Wednesday, as the ample electricity ensured the irrigation needs of the pomelo trees during the high temperatures of summer.
The company has significantly improved voltage quality by strengthening line reconstruction, erecting new electric poles, laying lines, and increasing the capacity of transformers, effectively solving the irrigation electricity issues for thousands of pomelo farmers.
Linfeng Town has a history of pomelo cultivation spanning over 130 years, with a planting area of more than 53,000 mu (approximately 3,533 hectares), an annual output of over 69 million, and an annual output value close to 700 million yuan.
Apart from power supply, local authorities have also made efforts in pomelo brand promotion. By introducing e-commerce companies and intelligent packaging, the sales of local pomelos have grown rapidly.
Currently, pomelos have been exported to Singapore through the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor. Local authorities are now actively exploring overseas markets of Australia and Malaysia.
