BEIJING, July 23 (Xinhua) -- In recent years, the State Grid Corporation of China has been actively support green transformation projects including small hydropower, photovoltaic (PV) power, biomass power and wind power in Qijiang District and Wansheng Economic Development Zone of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.
Once important energy bases in Chongqing or even the southwest part of China, Qijiang and Wansheng are rich in mineral resources. With long history of mining, some areas in the two places have become coal mining subsidence areas.
The local governments have made great efforts toward transforming and upgrading of the mining areas, through extensive promotion of clean energy.
The Panlong pumped-storage power station in Qijiang's Zhongfeng Town has been put into full operation for power generation, whereas the Nantianmen wind farm in Wansheng has made it possible to send wind-generated electricity to thousands of households.
As of June, 78 hydropower stations were counted in Qijiang and Wansheng, with a total of 95.08 million kWh of on-grid electricity, an increase of 136.77 percent over the same period last year.
In Qijiang, a number of distributed PV power generation projects for factories, commercial buildings, as well as in key villages and towns, are gradually being implemented. A total of 9.68 megawatts (MW) of distributed PV power projects have been built so far in the district, among which 5.3 MW have been connected to the grid, with the cumulative power generation capacity reaching 1.59 million kWh.
In order to ensure power demand of the green transformation projects, State Grid Chongqing Qijiang Power Supply Company has set up a special team for green power service, as a bid to offer "housekeeper" services for the whole process of green industry projects.
With adequate power supply, enterprises in Qijiang and Wansheng are doing their best to expand production and sales, forming industrial clusters for emerging industries and industrial parks for smart constructions. (Edited by Yu Huichen with Xinhua Silk Road, yuhuichen@xinhua.org)
