BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhua) -- The Longli River Bridge in southwest China's Guizhou Province was completed and opened to traffic recently.

This bridge is a new scenic spot for Guizhou's exploration in integrating bridge and tourism, where visitors can experience high-altitude walking and sightseeing on the bridge.

The bridge stretches 1,260 meters long, with the bridge deck 280 meters above the bottom of the canyon.

There are 528-meter-long glass walkways on both sides of the main bridge, composed of 254 pieces of glass. Visitors can walk on the glass walkways and enjoy a 360-degree view of the canyon scenery through the sightseeing elevator.

Jiao Linyang, the head of the technology and quality department of the Longli River Bridge project from CCCC Second Highway Engineering Bureau Company Ltd., said that the team encountered technical challenges during construction, but they were successfully resolved.

The bridge has conducted key technical research on human-induced vibration comfort, the reliability of the glass walkway, and the installation and design of the sightseeing elevator. The team has obtained one national invention patent and 11 national new type patents.

At present, Guizhou owns more than 30,000 bridges built and under construction, and is known as the "Museum of Bridges."

Feng Wei, deputy director of the Transportation Department of Guizhou, introduced that the province is promoting the deep integration of transportation and tourism. A plan for the integrated development of transportation and tourism is being compiled, aiming to take the lead in transportation to serve the creation of world-class tourist destinations.

The Baling River Bridge Museum has been built into a practical education base for study tours, attracting many visitors at home and abroad.

In addition, Guizhou Expressway Investment Group Co., Ltd. has also developed tourism projects such as high-altitude bungee jumping, high-altitude swings, and rapid sliding, taking advantage of the sightseeing benefits of the Baling River Bridge. They have also hosted several international high bridge extreme sports tournaments and other international competitions.
