MILAN, Apr 5 (Class Editori) — The top five positions of major buyers at Vinitaly in Verona, which closed this afternoon with a record edition, are occupied by the US, which a clear gap from Germany, followed by the UK. China returned to fourth position, surpassing Canada.
Besides the general growth of the European market, the fair saw the great return of operators from all non-EU markets: Asia has more than doubled (+116%), driven by the return of Chinese who exceeded 1,000 attendees, and Japan (+143%).
The Americas marked +38% with a remarkable figures from the US (+45%) and Brazil (+46%), as well as further consolidation from Canada (+19%). Australia has also tripled at +130%.
The International Wine and Spirits Exhibition recorded 93,000 total attendees, of which 29,600 were foreign. The growth over the last edition was almost entirely caused by the entries of foreign buyers (about +20%) from 143 countries, which accounted for one-third of the total number of accredited operators at this edition.
Veronafiere and Italian Trade Agency (ITA) selected and hosted over 1,000 top buyers. Vinitaly and the City, Verona’s most important wine exhibition, which is totally under Verona fair’s organizational sphere, totaled over 45,000 tastings (+50% year-on-year) by wine lovers who gathered in the historic center of Verona. In 2024, Vinitaly will be held from April 14 to April 17.
“The goal is to build with institutional partners a permanent and coordinated promotional platform capable of attracting, on one hand, incoming investment to Italy, and on the other, promote Italian products abroad. In this way, Veronafiere would be able to expand in the US, Japan, South Korea, and the Far east after Brazil and China,” Maurizio Danese, CEO of Veronafiere, said. “The investments made towards incoming foreign capitals have given a first concrete result to Vinitaly, which we want to be more and more decisive for the business of the exhibitors who set aside important resources for the event”.
After the closure of Vinitaly in Verona, it is time for Vinitaly China to start. Supported by ITA, the first appointment will be in Chengdu on April 11. The opening event will be a masterclass with China’s only Master Sommelier, Yang LV, as well as a business forum organized by subsidiary Wine to Asia, with one of the most influential platforms dedicated to wine in China, Wine Sommelier.
Then, on April 14, Vinitaly will stop in Shenzhen at the Italian Pavilion of the Hainan Government Fair, for a tasting and presentation of Italy at the Wine to Asia fair, to be held from May 11 to May 13, with the support of ITA and Altagamma Foundation. In Shenzhen, at Veronafiere’s international event, the fair expects over 450 exhibitors from 20 countries.
