The German automotive supplier ZF plans to manufacture driveline technology for pure electric vehicles at its plant in Saarbrücken in southwestern Germany in the future. "New production lines are to be installed for this purpose as early as 2023, with series production starting in 2024," the company announced. According to ZF, investments in the three-digit million range are planned for this. In addition, the workforce will participate in the switch to e-mobility by foregoing part of their wages and using them to build up the company's own future fund. This fund will be earmarked for investments in the establishment of new technologies.
In June, ZF and employee representatives had already concluded an agreement for the site, which stipulates that operational layoffs are excluded at the Saarbrücken plant until at least the end of 2025. The agreement at the time, "that the pay line for new hires will be adjusted in favor of the future fund," will now be extended to the core workforce, a spokeswoman said.
With around 9,000 employees, the ZF site in Saarbrücken is the largest employer in the federal state of Saarland and also one of the company's largest plants worldwide.
