BEIJING, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturers including BYD, Chery, Li Auto, XPeng, Nio, and Hozon Auto have rushed to file for registration of metaverse-related trademarks, the Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News reported on Tuesday.
Metaverse can be perceived as an ecosystem of automobile. Backing by on-cloud artificial intelligence algorithms, it belongs to the internet field and may bring benefits to intelligent cars that embody automatic driving, speech recognition, face recognition and gesture recognition, said Zhang Xiang, researcher with the auto industry innovation and research center of Beijing University of Technology.
Zhang added that if the market of metaverse continues expanding, by preparing in advance, carmakers can acquire fans of the emerging sector and turn them into users.
For example, after its investment in metaverse, BYD can attract and retain users by continuously designing and creating content to make them have preference for the car brand when making their car purchase decision, according to Zhang.
BYD recently applied for registration of the trademark "BYD Metaverse". The automaker said the move was out of consideration of trademark protection and it had no plan to carry out relevant business for the time being. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, sudan@xinhua.org)
