MILAN, Dec. 30 (Class Editori) — Italy's Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) will allocate 609 million euros for the digitalization of the country's production sector, as one of the priorities identified in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). After incentives to families and schools, the capital allocated as part of the Italy's strategy for ultra-broadband is now aimed at companies.
The 609 million euros available include 516 million euros already provided for this second phase and about 93 million euros unused in the previous program, launched in November 2020, ended in last November by Infratel Italia —an in-house MISE company— and dedicated to families with an Equivalent Financial Situation Index (ISEE) of less than 20,000 euros.
Depending on the type and the value of vouchers requested, the "Voucher Plan for businesses" will benefit a minimum of 850,000 and a maximum of 1.4 million beneficiary companies. These may, in fact, request a single voucher to improve the internet connection speed (from 30 Mbit/s to over 1Gbit/s), with different values (from 300 to 2,000 euros) and duration of the contract (from 18 to 36 months).
The resources deployed are used to support business digitalization "so as to reduce the digital divide in the production system nationwide," as stated by Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, who has signed the implementing decree for the "Voucher Plan for businesses" today. This will be followed by communication initiatives aimed at raising awareness of the new measure and its benefits to all possible beneficiaries, especially since, according to MISE’s Minister, "it is not acceptable, as happened in the previous phase dedicated to families, that resources that have been allocated are not entirely used for lack of operational information, adequate to understand its importance”.
This dual plan, approved by the European Commission on December 15, will last until resource depletion, but still no later than two years since the start of the intervention by Infratel Italia.
