BEIJING, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- With the chili planting area of 5.7 million mu, southwest China's Guizhou Province will see the output of fresh chilies reaching 7.8 million tons, with a total value of 27 billion yuan this year.

In recent years, Guizhou has set up a large number of special  chili industrial clusters to help the development of characteristic agriculture and promote the advancement of industrial structure.

As a national-level chili market, Guizhou's China Pepper City has continuously improved its service functions such as processing and packaging, cold chain storage, logistics and distribution, financial services and comprehensive supporting facilities, and now has basically formed conditions of pepper futures transaction.

Dried chilies can be stored in cold storage for more than three years, the 20,000 tons of chilli cold storage becomes a buffer when market demand changes, said Fu Lu, who develops and operates China Pepper City.

Besides, Guizhou is building the only industrial cluster with bird pepper advantages in China. From Lao Gan Ma which goes abroad to tens of thousands of small pepper workshops and millions of families who make their own pepper products, it is truly the largest province of pepper products in China, producing more than 70 kinds of pepper products in nine series, among which oil pepper products account for 70 percent in China.

At the end of 2018, China Zunyi Bird Pepper (Dry Pepper) Wholesale Price Index was launched. As China's first special agricultural product price index, it reflects the price trend of the pepper market.

In 2020, another three pepper wholesale price indexes were released, which jointly constituted the price index of China's dry pepper series. At present, it has basically achieved coverage of major pepper markets across the country.

Nowadays, chili products of Guizhou have been shipped to the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta, as well as 108 countries and regions abroad.
