MILAN, Oct. 28 (Class Editori) -- Today Italian Ambassador to Beijing Luca Ferrari, Chairman of Dante Alighieri Society Ltd. Andrea Ricciardi and Italian Consul General in Hong Kong Clemente Contestabile have inaugurated the new Dante Alighieri center to teach Italian language and culture inside the prestigious Hong Kong Arts Center.
Dante Alighieri Society, which has been active in the Asian metropolis since 1934, becomes part of the limited number of associations present in the main local cultural foundation, which has been promoting and supporting linguistic and fine-art related cooperation between Hong Kong and the rest of the world for 40 years.
"Today a new chapter in the history of Dante Alighieri Society in Hong Kong begins, coinciding with the 700th anniversary of the death of the Supreme Poet," Benedetto Della Vedova, Undersecretary of State at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, stressed while in Rome.
"Dante Alighieri Society in Hong Kong has done an excellent job in teaching Italian to generations of Hongkongers," Ambassador Ferrari recalled, hoping that "on the basis of this success it may develop its activities also in Mainland China, where the Embassy of Italy in Beijing and the network of Consulates General and Cultural Institutes are ready to support its work".
The new center allows Dante Alighieri Society to teach Italian to thousands of students in Hong Kong and to expand its cultural offer for the benefit of the passionate local public. Bruno Feltracco, President of the Committee, pointed out that entering the Arts Center represents a milestone in the history of Dante Alighieri Society in Hong Kong, which appropriately coincides with the 700th anniversary of the death of the Supreme Poet.
The opening of the new center in the city with the highest real estate costs in the world was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Consulate General of Italy in Hong Kong and the generous support of local foundations and companies.
