BEIJING, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Northern China's port city Tianjin Municipality saw its food and agricultural products surged 33.08 percent year on year in foreign trade, reaching 128.14 billion yuan in the first three quarters of the year, said the local customs last Friday.
Of the total volume, the imports reached 107.26 billion yuan, up 38.2 percent year on year in the period, while the exports stood at 20.88 billion yuan, with the year-on-year increase of 11.8 percent.
Tianjin Customs has adopted complementary measures to promote the import of food and agricultural products, such as simplifying the import declaration process and shortening the time for inspection and clearance.
Taking meat products as an example, Tianjin witnessed a 66.9 percent growth in the import value compared with same period last year.
The growth of food exports benefits from the timely inspection and traceable release of export enterprises by the local customs, which ensures the availability of 7X24 customs clearance for exporters.
Since the beginning of this year, more Tianjin's food and agricultural products have stepped into international market, including the city's first export of local produced rice products to the European Union, and Chinese chestnut entering the Canadian market for the first time.
During the same period, Tianjin also witnessed a 5.05 year-on-year increase in melon and sunflower seed exports and 111 percent growth in chestnut product exports.
