KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Standing in his agarwood plantation in Malaysia's central Perak state, Nicklaus Ho is looking forward to the third China International Import Expo (CIIE) to promote the agarwood products to the Chinese customers though he could not attend the Expo himself like last year due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
"CIIE is such an important event that we do not want to miss," Ho told Xinhua in a recent interview.
With some 200,000 agarwood in his plantation, Ho's company produced a wide range of related health products like Agarwood Herbal Tea, coffee, food, among others under the brand Hoga. He has been working to tap into the Chinese market since several years ago.
"For our Agarwood Herbal Tea, China is such a big market," he said, "With the growth of the Chinese economy, the Chinese consumers will increasingly pay more importance to their health, and this is a great opportunity for us."
Ho had hoped to participate in the first CIIE but could not get the opportunity. He was able to participate in the 2nd CIIE last year and said he was greatly impressed.
"It was such a huge exhibition with abound opportunities," he recalled, "It also provided opportunities for participants from around the world to exchange ideas among themselves."
By exploring the expo himself, Ho also got a first-hand understanding on how Chinese consumers were paying more attention to the quality of life, which in return boost his confidence in the Chinese market.
Ho's Agarwood Herbal Tea will make another appearance at this year's CIIE as his business partner in China will participate on his behalf.
"By participating in the CIIE, we hope to know more potential partners to better promote our products," he said, "We gained much experience last year. We were able to know some organizations but unfortunately, the pandemic came not long after. We are looking forward to exploring more cooperation this year."
Ho's company is utilizing China's e-commerce platforms to expand the channel for his products, he also hopes to open agarwood lifestyle shops in China in the future.
"The CIIE provides a platform for foreign companies to share the benefit of China's development, we also hope to share the benefits from our agarwood with Chinese consumers in the same spirit," he said. Enditem
