Thailand to boost economic growth

September 29, 2020

Abstract : Thailand's Prime Minister pleadged to drive economic development while taking border control as a priority due to a surge in new cases in its neighboring country.

InfoQuest (September 29, 2020) - Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Thailand, regarded the conference on outcomes of Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration as significant for the ongoing pandemic prevention in the context of severe global situation. Considering that neighboring countries were experiencing a surge in new cases, Thailand took border control as a priority by sending military and police forces to implement strict manpower screening over the border.

Furthermore, the government must drive economic development, the Prime Minister added. The next three months will see a resumption of economic activities. However, the growth will count on the nation, who is expected to unite as a whole and abide by pandemic prevention provisions concerning wearing masks, hygiene and health and social distance.

Being briefed by the Center, the Prime Minister set the target ahead as stimulus of sound economic development. The corresponding measures focus on businessmen who run businesses and invest in Thailand and shall be governed by appropriate special regulations; and on foreign tourists, particularly long-stay tourists, with policies made in view of their country of origin, their place of residence in Thailand, the situation of tourist attractions and the tourism practitioners including small vendors. He stressed that the government would take account into the whole tourism industry chain from employers, large or small, to employees.

What's more, the decision on whether to open Thailand to those who have settled in Thailand will depend on government's capacity to combat COVID-19 and local people's willingness. Various prevention methods (e.g. apps) by government, medical staff and medical equipment have been in place.
