HOHHOT, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Foreign trade in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region totaled 57.75 billion yuan (about 8.4 billion U.S. dollars) in the first seven months of this year, down 9.2 percent year on year, according to Hohhot customs.
The customs said the region's trade with Mongolia reached 12.89 billion yuan from January to July, down 38 percent year on year, while its trade with Russia dropped by 8 percent to 10.58 billion yuan.
Import and export businesses of the region's trade firms with Mongolia were affected by suspension of land freight transport due to COVID-19, according to Jiao Zhijun, a customs official.
Meanwhile, the region saw robust growth in China-Europe freight trains via its main border ports. Manzhouli, China's largest land port, saw 1,620 such trains in the January-July period, up 37.3 percent, while the number of such trains via the port of Erenhot increased by 47.5 percent to 1,230 during the same period.
