BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- China’s express delivery industry saw a 40 percent increase in the parcel handling volume during the five-day May Day holiday season which started from May 1, according to the State Post Bureau (SPB).
In specific, China’s couriers received 1.102 billion parcels during the five-day holiday, up 41.8 percent year on year, while delivering 1.038 billion parcels, rising 38.93 percent on year.
According to an official with the SPB, the online shopping festival jointly launched by the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, SPB and China Consumers Association has greatly boosted consumption and promoted the recovery of express delivery industry, which has been hit hard by the COVID-19 epidemic.
The online sales of commodities such as food, daily necessities, and computers, communication and consumer electronics (known as 3C products) are popular among consumers, effectively driving small and medium-sized enterprises to resume production. Meanwhile, online sales of agricultural products maintained a rapid growth, said the official.
All the couriers have been working hard to ensure a smooth running of logistics network while strictly implementing the COVID-19 prevention and control measures. (Edited by Zhang Yuan with Xinhua Silk Road, zhangyuan11@xinhua.org)
