U.S.-China cooperation benefits world: Neil Bush

December 04, 2019

Abstract : U.S.-China cooperation benefits both sides and the world at large, Neil Bush, son of former U.S. President George H.W. Bush, has said.

GUANGZHOU, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- U.S.-China cooperation benefits both sides and the world at large, Neil Bush, son of former U.S. President George H.W. Bush, has said.

"Everything about America has grown and is better because of the relationship with China," Bush said here during the just-concluded 2019 Imperial Springs International Forum, adding that China has also benefited from what he called "the most important bilateral relationship."

"So the benefit has been win-win from our relationship," said Bush, also chairman of the George H.W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations.

On the U.S.-initiated trade disputes with China, Bush said that he was "very optimistic" about the prospects of the bilateral ties.

"If you look at the history of the U.S.-China relationship over the past 40 years, every time there's a dip in the relationship, the United States and China end up having deeper dialogue," said Bush.

"We end up having negotiations and talks, and these talks inevitably lead to a stronger relationship coming out of the dip," he said.

Despite disagreements and different approaches on certain things, both sides agree on the majority of global challenges and must cooperate to address them, Bush said.

"There's a greater need now for collaboration than ever before, because human challenges are growing," he added.
