Hongqi, meaning "red flag", was established in 1958 and has been used as the vehicle for parades at national celebrations. It is a brand under FAW, the first automaker in China established in 1953. It debut as a parade limousine at Tian'anmen Square during China's 10th National Day celebration in 1959.
In 2018, FAW launched its new Hongqi brand strategy, establishing the strategic goal of building the new Hongqi brand into a world-class auto brand. Since then, the younger, more market-oriented and international new Hongqi has been well accepted by a large number of young people.

Apart from all these, high-quality development as well as providing highly competitive products is also an important way that Hongqi is heading for. In future, FAW will continue to adhere to the CSR vision of harmonious development between human, vehicle and society, carry out development duties of producing high quality vehicles and training highly-competent talents so as to promote FAW's sustainable development, said Xu Liuping, chairman and party secretary of China FAW Group at the 2019 Boao Forum for Entrepreneurs.
