Keeping active in Jing'an now cheaper thanks to new sport coupons

June 19, 2019

Abstract : People living, working and studying in Jing’an District can now receive coupons sent out by the district’s sports authority to use in local sports facilities, officials said Thursday.

People living, working and studying in Jing’an District can now receive coupons sent out by the district’s sports authority to use in local sports facilities, officials said Thursday.

From Thursday, residents, workers and students in Jing’an can pick up coupons from the official WeChat account of Jing’an Sports Bureau. Until the end of the year, the bureau will send out 420 coupons every day, each with a value between 20 (US$3) and 80 yuan.

The coupons can be used at more than 40 sports facilities across the district, including Jing’an Sports Center, and traded for sessions or classes in fencing, swimming, yoga and many other sports.

One can only pick up to five coupons in a week, and the coupons are required to be used within 14 days.

“We are the first in the city to send out such coupons to local people to encourage them to do more sports,” said Yu Biao, head of Jing’an Sports Bureau. “Our people can pay less, as both the sports authority and sports facilities have covered part of the fees.”

The bureau has spared 3 million yuan to support the project, aiming to benefit at least 100,000 people this year.

“We will consider sending out more coupons based on people’s needs,” Yu said.

Also, rules on management and supervision will be launched to prevent “unwanted side-effects,” such as people who don’t live or work in Jing’an using the coupons, or people picking up coupons that they don’t use. “These people may be blacklisted,” Yu said.
