BEIJIGN, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Department of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Commerce has introduced a project called "Think Rice, Think Thailand", aiming at promoting premium grade Thai rice and encouraging the international community to pay attention to health.
The project involves the spreading of knowledge ranging from national agricultural history, standards and Thai rice quality.
Mario Maurer, one of Thailand's renowned actors, said that Thai Hom Mali rice, or fragrant rice, has been his favorite since childhood for its aroma and softness.
Thai Hom Mali rice is beneficial to health since it's gluten free and contains antioxidants and vitamin E, said Mario, adding that the rice has no parallel across the world in his eye.
Other premium grade Thai rice such as brown rice and riceberry rice can also bring health benefits.
Thai rice innovations including brown rice milk and rice bran oil can be the choice of people with health-conscious mind. Rice bran oil, for example, helps people lower cholesterol levels, according to Mario.
Thai government highly values the high standards of rice. The government ensures that only certified Thai Hom Mali rice seeds are used and planted only in regions where the weather and soil conditions are defined suitable.
The quality control has resulted in an increasingly larger number of consumers of Thai Hom Mali rice worldwide, according to Saminder Beli, Business Head for Rice in Thailand for Phoenix Global. (Edited by Su Dan)
