InfoQuest, (June 10, 2019) -- The expert panel has approved an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the high-speed railway project linking three airports (Don Mueang airport in Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi airport in Samut Prakan and U-Tapao airport in Rayong) on June 7, according to Worawut Mala, acting governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT). The 220-km-long high-speed railway network, with a total investment of 224.544 billion baht, will be submitted for deliberation at a meeting of the National Environment Board on June 24.
In early July, an agreement is expected to be signed with the winning bidder, a Charoen Pokphand Group (CP)-led consortium. The Eastern Special Economic Zone Policy Committee estimated that the contract will be signed on June 15, but the project is currently stuck in the process of EIA and must be approved first according to the country's law.
Mr. Worawut Mala said the Qualification Selection Committee will discuss the issue of site delivery with the CP Group on June 14. The discussion will give priority to Don Mueang airport and U-Tapao airport, for there exists more issues, such as trespassing, lease agreements, the overlap areas of the Thai-China railway project and the Thai-Japan railway project, the Hopewell elevated pillars, the expropriated areas, site access and site delivery.
