The 4 new cranes of Chinese production moored. The infrastructure controlled by Apm Terminals and participated by Cosco and Qingdao Port International Development will be operational by the end of the year, with a capacity of 840 thousand TEU.
There are 14 cargo cranes more at the new Vado Ligure container platform. The infrastructure, that will start operating at the end of the year, is completed for a 77%. The last four cranes moored on Monday at the Savona-based terminal, built by Shanghai Zhenua Heavy Industries (Zpcm).
Therefore, they have been added to the 10 automated rail mounted gantry arrived in the last few months: four last December and the others in April. By the end of 2019, the total equipment will rise to 21.
Once completed, the new container terminal will count on a total capacity of 860 thousand TEU. The infrastructure is considered as one of the most innovative in the landscape of Italian ports. Once completed, APM estimates that it will bring the capacity of Savona to a million TEU. Indeed, the 260,000 TEU of the nearby Reefer Terminal, which was also controlled by the company that belongs to the Ap Moller-Maersk group, must be added to the new infrastructure.
The new infrastructure will be one of the most technologically advanced in the Mediterranean, with a 700 meter quay with suitable draught to give space to the huge ships of the latest generation and automated advanced handling systems.
The intent is to become the gateway to Northern Italy and Central Europe markets. The project aims to make the port one of the largest for intermodal sea-rail activities - Apm Terminal today is one of the world's leading terminal companies with 74 ports and operating terminals, it is a 50.1% majority shareholder.
The remaining stake is held by the Chinese Cosco, logistics and maritime giant, which holds a 40% and Qingdao Port International Development a 9.9%, with a total investment of 70.5 million euros, divided into 53 million the first and 17.5 million the second done in October 2016.
