Zhongxian County, land of loyalty

February 21, 2020

Abstract : Zhongxian County of Chongqing in Southwest China is renowned for its tradition of loyalty, inclusive culture and abundant natural resources.

BEIJING, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) --  Zhongxian County of Chongqing in Southwest China is renowned for its tradition of loyalty, inclusive culture and abundant natural resources.

The Chinese character "Zhong" in its name means "loyalty", which was granted by Emperor Taizong in the early Tang Dynasty, to mark the heroic spirit and righteousness of many famous figures that had defended this lovely land with their lives.

To fully demonstrate its tradition of loyalty, the county has been promoting in recent years a grand real landscape show named Flames and Fumes: Three Kingdoms, which has become a unique cultural spree.

Another name card of the county is the Shibaozhai (Stone Treasure Stronghold) built in Qing Dynasty. It is listed as one of "the most singular constructions" in the world by the U.S. Discovery Channel, attributable to its peculiar architecture and interesting legends. Since 1979, the scenic spot has received nearly 220,000 tourists.

Known as a "Botanic Gene Bank", the county has over 70 types of animals and more than 260 types of arbors and shrubs in its Tianchi Forest Park. It has also built a theme park in 2015 for Chinese yew, which was the first of its kind in China. Reputed as "living fossil", Chinese yew is an endangered species under first class state protection in China, and is also prohibited from cutting according to the United Nations.
