High-tech components are now being produced for the aircraft manufacturer Airbus in the town of Kodersdorf (District Görlitz) in the German state of Saxony. Airbus supplier Acosa officially started production last week. Previously, there has been a three-month trial operation, while the foundation stone for the plant was laid almost one year ago.

“With this production capacity, we are strengthening our position as a supplier for the largest European aircraft manufacturer and meeting the increased monthly production rates for the A320 family announced by Airbus,” said Andreas Sperl, the CEO of the EADS subsidiary Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW).

Cargo component linings and floor panels are manufactured for Europe’s largest aircraft manufacturer at the plant by Acosa, a wholly-owned subsidiary of EFW. Roughly 42,000 plates should leave the factory in eastern Saxony this year. Mass production for Airbus is set to begin in June, said Acosa CEO Frank Zenker. After leaving Kodersdorf, these components are either sent directly for final assembly at the Airbus plant in Hamburg or to the accompanying storage warehouse. From there, they can also be distributed to production sites in France, China and the US.
