BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) -- China is formulating a new action plan for air pollution control with some forward-looking policies and methods to be introduced, the Xinhua-run Economic Information Daily reported on Monday.
Some forward-looking policies and methods are being considered, including the allocation of central financial funds based on the improvement of air quality in different regions and the transfer of emissions trading rights and actual emissions quotas through a market-based mechanism instead of executive orders, said Lei Yu, an official of Chinese Academy for Environmental Planning (CAEP) under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
In 2013, the State Council, China's cabinet, outlined ten measures for curbing the air pollution.
Data shows that compared with 2013, PM2.5 density in the three major urban agglomerations (including Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area, Yangtze River Delta region, and Pearl River Delta region) decreased significantly in 2017.
Last year, the PM2.5 average density in Beijing fell to 58 micrograms/cubic meter and the Pearl River Delta region had steadily achieved PM2.5 density of less than 35 micrograms/cubic meter for three consecutive years. The number of air pollution days in 74 key cities in China has been significantly reduced. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
