China imported 6,864.9 tons of black tea from January to March 2018, an increase of 26.2 percent year on year. The imports amounted to 28.0 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 23.5 percent year on year. The average price was 4,072.8 U.S. dollars per ton, a decrease of 2.1 percent year on year.
In March alone, China imported 2,765.4 tons of black tea, an increase of 108.7 percent month on month. The imports amounted to 11.2 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 86.4 percent month on month. The average price was 4,048.3 U.S. dollars per ton, a decrease of 10.7 percent month on month. Compared with March 2017, there was an increase of 37.1 percent in quantity, an increase of 27.0 percent in value, and a decrease of 7.4 percent in average price.
In terms of import origin by continents, Asia exported 5,959.7 tons of black tea from January to March 2018, an increase of 21.3 percent year on year, or 24.1 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 17.5 percent year on year, at an average price of 4,050.0 U.S. dollars per ton, a decrease of 3.2 percent year on year; Africa exported 685.1 tons, an increase of 43.9 percent year on year, or 2.0 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 79.7 percent year on year, at an average price of 2,867.2 U.S. dollars per ton, an increase of 24.9 percent year on year; Europe exported 74.6 tons, an increase of 55.7 percent year on year, or 1.5 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 66.6 percent year on year, at an average price of 20,481.6 U.S. dollars per ton, an increase of 7.0 percent year on year; South America exported 100.4 tons, or 129,220 U.S. dollars, at an average price of 1,287.1 U.S. dollars per ton; North America exported 1.1 tons, a decrease of 74.5 percent year on year, or 32,347 U.S. dollars, a decrease of 58.4 percent year on year, at an average price of 29,167.7 U.S. dollars per ton, an increase of 62.9 percent year on year; Oceania exported 44.0 tons, an increase of 16,377.2 percent year on year, or 168,742 U.S. dollars, an increase of 2,218.8 percent year on year, at an average price of 3,835.6 U.S. dollars per ton, a decrease of 85.9 percent year on year.
In March alone, Asia exported 2,328.6 tons of black tea, or 9.7 million U.S. dollars, at an average price of 4,168.3 U.S. dollars per ton; Africa exported 303.2 tons, or 757,989 U.S. dollars, at an average price of 2,500.1 U.S. dollars per ton; Europe exported 32.5 tons, or 582,604 U.S. dollars, at an average price of 17,945.1 U.S. dollars per ton; South America exported 100.4 tons, or 129,220 U.S. dollars, at an average price of 1,287.1 U.S. dollars per ton; North America exported 219 kilograms, or 9,733 U.S. dollars, at an average price of 44,442.9 U.S. dollars per ton; Oceania exported 509 kilograms, or 9,088 U.S. dollars, at an average price of 17,854.6 U.S. dollars per ton.
Among all the countries and regions that exported black tea to China from January to March, in terms of value, Sri Lanka ranked first with 15.1 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 36.0 percent year on year; India ranked second 5.8 million U.S. dollars, a decrease of 9.7 percent year on year; Taiwan ranked third with 1.3 million U.S. dollars, a decrease of 38.2 percent year on year.
In March alone, Sri Lanka ranked first with 6.3 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 32.6 percent year on year; India ranked second with 2.2 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 8.3 percent year on year; Kenya ranked third with 437,508 U.S. dollars, an increase of 148.2 percent year on year.
