China Monthly Import Report on Tea (January 2018)

Abstract : China imported 3,196.5 tons of tea in January 2018, an increase of 35.4 percent month on month. The import value amounted to 14.23 million U.S. dollars, up 14.4 percent.

Chapter I. Summary

China imported 3,196.5 tons of tea in January 2018, an increase of 35.4 percent month on month. The import value amounted to 14.23 million U.S. dollars, up 14.4 percent, and the average price was 4,450.4 U.S. dollars per ton, down 15.5 percent. Compared with January of last year, there was an increase of 98.8 percent in quantity, an increase of 99.3 percent in value, and an increase of 0.2 percent in average price.

In terms of  import origin by continent, Asia exported 2,977.2 tons of tea to China, with a year-on-year increase of 98.0 percent, or 12.92 million U.S. dollars, up 102.1 percent, at an average price of 4,340.2 U.S. dollars per ton, up 2.1 percent; Africa exported 185.5 tons, up 103.4 percent, or 0.63 million U.S. dollars, up 94.7 percent, at an average price of 3,379.7 U.S. dollars per ton, down 4.3 percent; Europe exported 31.6 tons, up 158.8 percent, or 0.54 million U.S. dollars, up 66.1 percent, at an average price of 16,931.5 U.S. dollars per ton, down 35.8 percent; North America exported 0.8 tons, up 31.6 percent, or 10,600 U.S. dollars, down 82.6 percent, at an average price of 13,861.8 U.S. dollars per ton, down 86.8 percent; Oceania exported 1.4 tons, up 390.7 percent, or 0.13 million U.S. dollars, up 228.1 percent at an average price of 92,677.7 U.S. dollars per ton, down 33.1 percent.

Among all the countries and regions that exported tea to China, Sri Lanka ranked first in terms of export value in January 2018 with a quantity of 1,099.4 tons, an increase of 113.7 percent year on year, value of 5.71 million U.S. dollars, up 127.7 percent, and an average price of 5,198.2 U.S. dollars per ton, up 6.6 percent; Taiwan ranked second with a volume of 307.6 tons, up 151.2 percent, value of 3.14 million U.S. dollars, up 134.6 percent, and an average price of 10,220.7 U.S. dollars per ton, down 6.6 percent; India ranked third with a volume of 1,197.9 tons, up 47.8 percent, value of 2.73 million U.S. dollars, up 19.6 percent, and an average price of 2,278.0 U.S. dollars per ton, down 19.1 percent.
