GUANGZHOU, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- International communication is crucial to facilitate the Belt and Road construction as it is inevitable to see culture confrontation and integration in the process of putting in place the Belt and Road Initiative in different countries. It is a concensus reached by experts attending a forum held in Zhuhai, south China's Guangdong Province Wednesday.
“The 21st Century Maritime Silk Road" Forum on International Communication and Chinese (Guangdong) Companies Going Global attracted more 1,000 participants from 55 countries.
According to the report delivered at the 19th CPC National Congress, China will actively promote international cooperation through the Belt and Road Initiative, and China will improve its capacity for engaging in international communication so as to tell China's stories well, present a true, multi-dimensional, and panoramic view of China.
Experts believe that the coordinated development of economy and culture is important support for all-round development of, just like two wheels to drive it. The rise of economy stands as firm backing for cultural prosperity while culture provides inexhaustible impetus for economic development.
Media use intermediaries such as articles, pictures and videos to distribute information about the Belt and Road and thus become messengers of cultures. It plays an irreplaceable role in promoting understanding and friendship among peoples in the countries along the Belt and Road.
In a story, there must be a leading role. Take companies from China and other countries along the route investing and operating under the initiative as examples, to illustrate actual benefits and changes the Belt and Road construction brought to local people will receive more recognition.
During the construction of the 21th Century Maritime Silk Road construction, media should focus on building cultural ties and push forward economic cooperation among counties to a higher level, allowing them to share Silk Road value together, experts agreed.
A multi-level long-term cooperation mechanism should be built to enhance international communication. Deputy Editor-in-chief of China Daily Sun Shangwu noted that the Belt and Road is not a closed area, instead it is an open, inclusive and sharing initiative, and cooperation among media from all countries should be strengthened to better report Belt and Road stories.
“The idea of localization in distribution should be deepened, including local language, local reporting, local production and local publication,” said Wu Hongyi, world affairs studies research fellow of Xinhua News Agency and former chief of Middle East Bureau of Xinhua News Agency.
To carry out the idea of “one world, various voices” not only depends on the media industry but also needs participation of peoples in all countries, Wu said.
“I believe the Belt and Road Initiative is not only to target infrastructure and logistic projects on the ancient silk road, but also to convey messages of peace and cooperation between China and the World, using culture as a major channel of communication for better mutual understanding and a step to prosperity,” said Julie Patterson, Co-President of the Committee of China Arts Festival in the EU.
