BERLIN, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- The number of employees in Germany's manufacturing sector reached a new record high in September, figures from the Federal Statistical Office showed on Wednesday.
The number of employees in manufacturing industries rose by 102,000 or 1.9 percent in September compared to the same period last year to reach a total of 5.5 million, registering a record high since 2005.
The Wiesbaden-based government statisticians attributed to the positive development to Germany's lasting economic momentum. Production, exports and industrial orders all rose in the third quarter.
Most of the new staff in the wider manufacturing sector were added by the food and animal feed producers (3.9 percent), followed by the producers of electrical equipment (3.8 percent).
Remuneration paid out by manufacturers in September was measured at 21.9 billion euros by the Federal Statistical Office, an increase of 3.4 percent compared to September 2016.
Despite the favorable data, the Federal Association of German Industry (BDI) warned against economic complacency.
"We cannot relax on the back of the great figures of the year 2017," BDI president Dieter Kempf told press in Berlin, urging the next German government to place a greater focus on the country's digitalization and the improvement of internet speeds.
Speaking with view to ongoing "Jamaica" coalition negotiations, the BDI president expressed fear that a phase of uncertainty could endanger investment by businesses. The industrial association's members therefore "hoped and expected" that a new federal government would be formed by the end of 2017. Enditem
