Chinese bike-sharing company Ofo enters Malaysia -- China's leading bike-sharing company, Ofo, on August 3 announced its expansion into Malaysia, two days after it entered the Thai market. A total of 500 of Ofo's signature yellow bikes have been placed in the tourist destination of Malacca. The number is expected to grow to some 2,000 by the end of August, according to the company.

China-Italy cultural park built in southwest China -- A joint cultural park between China and Italy will be built in Chengdu city, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province. The park, to be located in Chengdu's Tianfu New Area, will see a series of joint projects between China and Italy in the fields of culture, environmental protection, agriculture, and aviation industry, according to an agreement inked in Chengdu on August 3.

China's Feihe invests 234 million U.S. dollars in Canada's agri-food -- Feihe International Inc., a top manufacturer of infant formula in China, is building a manufacturing plant valued 300 million Canadian dollars (234 million U.S. dollars) in Kingston, Canada. Leng Youbin, Chairman of Feihe International Inc. told Xinhua on August 8 in Ottawa that Feihe board decided to invest to set up the plant in Kington city in Ontario province "because of better natural and cultural environments."

China Everbright joins rivals in Luxembourg -- China Everbright Bank will relocate its European business to Luxembourg after the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, which could be as early as 2019.The bank announced last week it had received approval from regulators in the tiny grand duchy to set up an office as it puts together contingency plans in the wake of Brexit. Alibaba, Marriott team up to serve Chinese tourists -- Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group on August 7 unveiled a joint venture with Marriott International to allow Chinese travelers to book Marriott hotels through Alibaba's travel service website and app. According to an announcement on the joint venture, Chinese tourists will be able to reserve Marriott's over 6,200 properties in 125 countries on Fliggy, the Chinese group's online platform, as well as the hotel chain's Chinese-language digital channels.

China Telecom ready to support Kyrgyzstan's digital transformation plans -- China Telecom expressed interest and readiness to cooperate with Kyrgyzstan in digitalizing its telecommunications, the Kyrgyz leader's press service reported on August 4.The two sides discussed future cooperation in the national 2040 Taza Koom (Clean society) digital transformation program, said Sapar Isakov, chief of the Kyrgyz President's Office.

Air China opens commercial office in Cuba to enhance cooperation -- China's flagship airline, Air China, opened on August 3 a commercial office in Cuba to boost tourism cooperation between the two nations and the Caribbean area. In a ceremony chaired by China's ambassador to Cuba Chen Xi and Air China's general manager in Cuba Zhang Xin, the office opened to facilitate travel between the Cuban capital and Beijing through the direct flight which has been operating since the end of 2015.

Xiaomi's flagship smartphone available for pre-order in Bangladesh -- Bangladeshi second largest mobile operator Robi's e-commerce portal, Robi Shop, is offering a unique opportunity for customers to pre-order leading Chinese mobile brand Xiaomi's latest flagship device Mi6. This pre-order facility is exclusively available with Robi Shop in Bangladesh, said Robi Axiata Limited, a joint venture of Axiata Group Berhad (Malaysia), Bharti Airtel Limited (India) and NTT DoCoMo Inc. (Japan), on August 2.

New McDonald's set to expand faster in China -- McDonald's Corp, the global fast-food chain that has forged a new partnership in China last month, will expand faster by opening 2,000 new restaurants in the next five years.They will be set up mostly in third-and fourth-tier cities with a focus on take-aways and digitalized services. The company said it will increase its expansion pace from about 250 new outlets this year to 500 per year from 2022 onward.
