Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, a landlocked region in China’s northwest part, is playing an active role in implementing the Belt and Road Initiative by improving land, air and cyberspace connectivity, said Wang Heshan, vice chairman of Ningxia. A multi-layered open network across Ningxia, that connects the region to the world, is taking shape.
Ningxia is the largest Muslim Hui people habitation in China. Data in 2015 showed that more than 2.4 million Hui people live in Ningxia, accounting for 36.05 percent of local population.
In September, Ningxia will host the third China-Arab States Expo, a trade event meant to deepen cooperation with Arab countries. The Belt and Road Initiative has made Ningxia the frontier for taking the lead in economic cooperation with Arab countries.
