BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua Silk Road) -- Longtan Village, a historic village in Xiling Township, Pingnan County, in southeast China's Fujian Province, has transformed from a weak-developed place to a popular tourism spot thanks to years of efforts in infrastructure construction including electric power transformation.
Electricity is the "lifeline" of industrial development and the "ballast stone" of people's livelihood security. In 2017, Longtan Village launched a cultural and creative revitalization initiative, attracting new residents to settle down and former villagers to return to start businesses. A diverse range of new businesses emerged including cultural studios, boutique homestays and intangible cultural heritage workshops, creating a dynamic scene of people influx, revitalized village and industries, and cultural vitality.
To support this transformation, the State Grid Pingnan County Power Supply Company proactively launched a series of measures for comprehensive power grid upgrading. Four new transformers were installed and the capacity of three existing transformers was expanded, largely strengthening the village's power "heart".
The company also upgraded 2,350 meters of low-voltage lines and placed all the cables underground along the ancient street. The moves improved supply reliability while preserving the village's traditional appearance.
Data shows that the electricity consumption in the Longtan area has risen from around 911,400 kWh in 2020 to some 2.1735 million kWh in 2024, an increase of over 1.38 times in five years. From January to October 2025, the electricity consumption has reached 1.8928 million kWh, and the growth momentum remains strong. The average power supply capacity per household in the area has increased from 1.48 kilovolt-ampere (KVA) to 3.58 KVA. The doubled capacity has injected strong momentum into local development.
From a once-quiet "hollow village" to a popular check-in spot, from weak infrastructure to a well-developed service system, the Xiling Township has been committed to the overall goal of rural revitalization. By addressing shortcomings in infrastructure, seeking breakthroughs in institutional innovation, and promoting the integration of culture and tourism, the township has forged a distinctive path of high-quality development with unique characteristics of eastern Fujian, bringing new life to the ancient village and sharing benefits of growth with local villagers.
