SHANGHAI, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- A "5G+satellite+WiFi" telephone call was made between two sailing workboats on the East China Sea, with the location of the ships traced on Tuesday.
This marks a new breakthrough in China's emergency networking.
The 5G VoWiFi network innovation was jointly launched by China Telecom and ZTE Corporation, integrating 5G, satellite and WiFi in the sky and on the earth.
This technology also enables connectivity between users in disaster areas and those at sea or in the air with people on land through 5G VoSat technology, meeting the needs for voice and messaging services. This ensures that even in the most remote or challenging land or marine environments, people can maintain contact with the outside world, providing strong support for emergency rescue and daily communication.
To date, part of the technology application has been used on cruise ships like the "Adora Magic City" and other scenes, serving over 100,000 users. The technology was also showcased at the MWC Barcelona and MWC Shanghai, and has won several awards.
China Telecom and ZTE will continue to deepen their cooperation to promote the widespread adoption of this innovation in broader marine, aerial, and disaster areas globally. (Contributed by Chen Aiping and Chen Yunfu; edited by Duan Jing with Xinhua Silk Road, duanjing@xinhua.org)
