BEIJING, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- The seventh China International Import Expo (CIIE) kicked off in Shanghai on November 5. This year's expo draws participation from 152 countries, regions, and international organizations, gathering a total of 3,496 exhibitors.
Over the course of the six-day event, exhibitors will explore collaboration opportunities and seek shared growth.
-- Unveiling limitless potential of new quality productive forces
The CIIE, which serves as an open platform for new products, technologies, and services from across the world, has cemented its status as the preferred destination for global product debuts after six years.
This year, Michelin, a world-renowned tyre manufacturer, sets its sights on the moon and makes the Asian debut of its "airless tire for lunar rovers", which is specially engineered to withstand the harsh lunar environment. Ye Fei, president and CEO of Michelin China, envisions a future where human establishes permanent settlements on the moon and Mars.
Shiseido, a Japanese beauty leader, has leveraged artificial intelligence to develop a device featuring "4D facial aging simulation technology" for Chinese consumers. Toshinobu Umetsu, president and CEO of Shiseido China, stressed that the company should always develop cutting-edge technologies that exceed current market expectations.
Furthermore, a key focus of this year's CIIE is fostering new quality productive forces. Novo Nordisk, a Danish pharmaceutical company, is showcasing 15 innovative drugs covering multiple diseases, with particular attention on "Awiqli", the world's first and currently only once-weekly basal insulin preparations for diabetes. Notably, Awiqli represents the first achievement of the "China Co-Creation" program launched by the company.
-- Establishing China's model for global open innovation and collaboration
Inside the exhibition hall, Lixil Water Technology presents a range of innovative products that combine advanced technology, unique design, and premium quality. Meanwhile, Shanghai has rolled out two implementation guidelines, one for national subsidies on eight categories of high-energy-efficiency appliances and the other providing up to 20 percent subsidies on 52 city-selected categories of home appliances and furnishings. Tao Jiang, CEO of Lixil Water Technology Greater China, reaffirmed the company's commitment to expanding its presence in the Chinese market.
BD, an American pharmaceutical company, has participated in the CIIE for five years in a row. The company will unveil 14 new products at this year's expo, according to Deng Jianmin, global senior vice-president of BD.
Moreover, during the 6th CIIE, KARL STORZ, an independent, family-owned MedTech company, announced the plan to build its first localized manufacturing base in the Asia-Pacific region in Songjiang, Shanghai. This year, the first batch of locally produced prototypes are being displayed at the expo.
-- Stimulating multiplier effect for innovation
CIIE's success has helped China and the world build a broader ecosystem.
For the first time, FANCL is participating as a group at this year's CIIE. A company representative noted that the CIIE serves as a bridge for international communication, offering an exceptional platform for global brands to showcase their products.
In addition, at the 2nd CIIE in 2019, L'Oréal, a world leader in beauty, launched the "Big Bang Beauty Tech Innovation Programme" in partnership with Oriental Beauty Valley, a biotech industrial park in Fengxian District, Shanghai. A year later, French startup CTIBIOTECH signed an agreement with Oriental Beauty Valley, marking its first step to enter the Chinese market.
Such an ecosystem fosters diverse interactions between domestic and international market players. Richard He, general manager, Consumer Health China of Bayer, views the CIIE as an innovative platform that brings together leading companies, research institutions, and manufacturing facilities from China and beyond, driving a multiplier effect for innovation.
