MILAN, July 5 (Class Editori) — During an overall positive period for Italian-Chinese bilateral relationships and despite the fear of retaliation by China for EU duties on imports of its electric vehicles, Adolfo Urso’s mission in Beijing ended with a raise.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will be in Beijing and probably Shanghai on July 28 and 29, and she will open the celebratory exhibitions that Italy, with China’s blessing, dedicated to Marco Polo for the seven hundredth anniversary of his death.
It may be the occasion to conclude what the Italian Minister of Enterprises started these last few days: to meet entrepreneurs and government authorities and solicit them to invest in Italy, perhaps with a few incentives from Rome.
“This morning (5 July, ed.), I met Ma Lei, CEO of Dongfeng, a company specializing in advanced products for electric mobility. The CEO, when it comes to their expansion strategy, showed their aspiration for long-term cooperation. I invited them to consider Italy as a possible market for future investments,” Urso said.
On the second day of his official visit, Urso had several institutional meetings: firstly, a meeting with the General Secretary of the Beijing municipality, Yin Li, an important member of the politburo; and secondly, one with the Chinese Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Jin Zhuanglong, with whom Urso agreed on a memorandum of industrial cooperation between the two ministries.
“We are convinced that a new and more conspicuous phase is opening in the strategic partnership between Italy and China. It is the right moment to do more and do it better: a leap from a trade partnership into an industrial one, especially in the green technology, electric mobility, and pharmaceutical sectors, which can be helpful to our Europe,” Urso added. “The goal is to make Italy a productive platform that highlights this new win-win cooperation between the two countries”.
During the two meetings, Urso reaffirmed the opportunity to further strengthen collaboration between the two countries, giving a new boost to bilateral relationships in order to create fruitful collaboration among Italian and Chinese companies in the industrial field.
During his visit, Minister Urso met with several Chinese automobile producers: Dongfeng first, then David Zhang, General Manager of JAC. Meetings were also attended by Vavassori, President of ANFIA, who underlined the complete collaboration of the automotive components’ companies.
Yesterday, before the reception at the Italian Institute of Culture with representatives of large and small enterprises, Italian Minister Urso met the leader of two other international players in electric mobility: Chery, the Chinese car manufacturer most present abroad, and CCIG, interested in the production of electric buses in Italy.
Urso had a meeting with Zhang Chuanwei, President of Ming Yang, which was attended by representatives of Toto Group, in order to explore themes such as development and technology for the production of energy from renewable sources, particularly offshoring floating eolics and turbines.
Italian Minister Urso repeated that Italy is “a dynamic, stimulating environment full of opportunities, and the government is ready to support these international players in order to guarantee the success of Chinese productive initiatives in Italy”. (All rights reserved)
