BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- As the number of people enjoying skiing increases rapidly, China's ice and snow sports-related consumption has picked up steam in recent years, the Xinhua-run Economic Information Daily reported on Thursday.
According to a report released by the China-based market research company Asia Data Group in September, the total scale of China's ice and snow industry is expected to exceed 800 billion yuan in 2022 and hit one trillion yuan in 2025.
A total of 346 million Chinese people have participated in ice and snow sports, according to data provided by Economic Information Daily.
During the 2021-2022 snow season, the number of skiers on the online platform of China's leading online travel agency Trip.com Group jumped 70 percent year on year, said Shen Jiani, senior researcher of the strategic research center of the company's research institute.
The increasingly larger skiing group has spurred the rapid growth of ice-snow consumption.
Consumption potential is further unleashed by the spending on ski resort tickets, ski teaching, ski equipment, as well as ice-snow tourism-related accommodation, food, travel, shopping and entertainment, said Shen.
Sales of "ski + hot spring" packages, ice-snow tours and other related products on Alibaba's online travel platform Fliggy increased 30 percent year on year during this year's Double 11 online shopping festival.
The booming consumption further invigorates the whole industrial chain at a faster pace.
In an international ice and snow industry development conference held last Friday in north China's Hebei Province, 22 key projects concerning ice and snow, culture and tourism, agriculture, and other fields were signed online, with a total investment amount of 30.2 billion yuan.
