MILAN, Oct 21 (Class Editori) — Accepting the challenge of new growing economies in Southeast Asia, the law and tax firm Greatway Advisory Asia (GWA) founded by the Bergamasque lawyer Giovanni Pisacane will expand in two key capitals of the area, Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok.
In Vietnam and in Thailand there will be two new desks as early as next month ready to help Italian companies that want to expand in the respective markets. “In Vietnam, a local team of young layers and accountants is ready to provide high-quality professional services to our clients, accompanying them through every legal and tax need, as we have been doing for over 18 years in China,” Giovanni Pisacane, Managing Partner and Founder of GWA, who personally opened the Ho Chi Minh office, stated.
“Asia is a strategic market for Italian companies and keeps on growing, especially at this time when HR reorganizations are being considered among expatriate managers. Bangkok can really be a winning choice,” Daniele Zibetti, Lawyer and Co-Managing Partner at GWA, underlined. He will open the offices in Bangkok as a functional base from which to manage Asia.
The office in Ho Chi Minh City will be inaugurated on November 19 with a dinner at Da Vittorio Saigon, to underline the deep Italian roots of the firm.
GWA started in Shanghai in 2004 and, in these almost 20 years, has gained a solid reputation among Italian companies in the People’s Republic of China, especially in the defense in Chinese courtrooms, in addition to ordinary commercial litigation and assistance in settlement practices in special areas.
In 2019, GWA snatched a landmark judgment in defending Bonaveri, a mannequin factory, against a large Chinese fashion Group, Shenzhen Ellassay Fashion Co. Ltd., convicted of maliciously falsifying the copyright of a particular line of mannequins produced by the Italian company.
The decision to now focus on Vietnam was dictated not only by its strategic proximity to China and other Southeast Asian countries, but particularly in this latest turbulent period between post-Covid-19 and geopolitical tensions, by the continued growth of its GDP, which could turn the country into a real potential Asian locomotive.
“Despite a regulatory system that is still quite young and complex, requiring the utmost caution and support from qualified professionals, Vietnam is now also a key destination for all those Italian groups that want to expand or restructure in Asia and are looking for an alternative to China thanks to lower costs, fewer tensions, easier entry and exit from the country,” Pisacane pointed out.
Unlike China, in fact, Vietnam has lifted all restrictions in place during the Covid-19 period and today there are no limits on travel and no visa is required for short stays in the country.
Thailand, with particular regard to Bangkok, in addition to its potential as a domestic market, can become a real hub for expatriate human resources, who use it as a base from which to follow the APAC markets, thanks to its strategic location, ease of travel and lack of restrictions and difficulties that in recent years have unfortunately characterized life in both Shanghai and Hong Kong, making them less attractive bases for following and developing the various Asian markets.
