BEIJING, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese-made pet products are gaining momentum in overseas markets, especially as the New Year dawns, reported Securities Daily.
Data from Alibaba's shopping site Taobao.com shows that Chinese-made pet supplies such as headbands decorated with antlers, lion-dancing clothes, and even pet hair dryers and treadmills are favored by foreign pet lovers.
Moreover, data shows that 80 percent of festival products in foreign markets come from China, and half of New Year pet clothes purchased overseas are made in China. Domestic brands featuring new design and new intelligent manufacturing are gaining popularity overseas.
Taking pet products as an example, medium and high-end original pet clothing brands, as well as domestic intelligent pet products, such as automatic feeders, water dispensers and cat dryers, have embraced a peak of exports. From January to November this year, the pet products sold overseas via Taobao and tmall.com, another shopping site of Alibaba, increased by about 45 percent year-on-year in value, and the sales of intelligent products overseas doubled.
According to an executive from Mookipet, a pet clothing brand on tmall.com, domestic pet products boast more abundant styles and higher qualities than foreign brands. Some North American customers who used to buy children's clothes of LV and Burberry and cut out them to fit their pet dogs, now turn to Chinese pet clothing brands. This year, the overseas sales of Mookipet's Tmall store surges by nearly 300 percent year on year.
The overseas popularity of domestic pet products sheds light on the upgrading of China's manufacturing industry. This year, new domestic products including floor washers, smart small household appliances, beauty makeup brands and household items with original design are welcomed by overseas consumers.
The emerging cross-border e-commerce business has also promoted made-in-China products to go global. Now more than 200 countries and regions around the world can gain access to Chinese-made products through tmall.com and Taobao.com. Meanwhile, the platform strategy and upgraded services have also facilitated domestic products to go global. So far, 80,000 types of domestic goods have made their first appearance in foreign markets, and 100,000 types of new domestic goods are expected to go global throughout the year.
